SIDEMASH launches Linkstream, the first virtual video control room

SIDEMASH, a start-up specializing in mobile livestreaming, announces the launch of the beta version of its virtual video control room. 

How was the company SIDEMASH founded?

SIDEMASH was created in 2014 when my partner and I joined the IncubAlliance incubation program. The project originated from an idea that arose during my final-year engineering trip to Montreal. While my future partner was in Paris, I regretted not being able to share everything I was experiencing on the other side of the ocean with him in real time. Neither Skype nor any social network satisfied me. That's when the idea came to me to create a device that would allow for real-time video capture and sharing of events with people in different locations. Although still somewhat vague, the idea for SIDEMASH was born.

An idea that seems to have evolved over time?

Yes, while we initially planned to develop our system around a hardware component – a camera that would connect to the smartphone – and a software component for real-time broadcasting, the arrival on the market of Periscope and Facebook Live convinced us to focus our efforts on the software component and to interface with existing live production platforms.

So, what exactly do you propose?

We offer Linkstream, the first virtualized video control room that automates live video production. Developed to reduce the costs associated with deploying a physical control room, Linkstream allows you to use any device with a camera and an internet connection as a video source, thus multiplying the camera angles for capturing an event. Thanks to our innovative technology, Linkstream also enables live editing, even automating this editing process with artificial intelligence, and moderation. Finally, hosted in the cloud, our video control room allows for an unlimited number of inputs and outputs broadcast live on any website, thereby maximizing audience reach.

What next steps are you considering?

We are currently meeting with potential investors for a fundraising round aimed at accelerating our customer acquisition.  

Who are these clients?

To increase our visibility, we are of course planning to reach individuals, for whom we offer a free module. We also offer a subscription service to video recording providers with professional cameras who wish to benefit from a production management system at a lower cost.

What role did IncubAlliance play in your career path?

My partner and I had just graduated when we joined the incubator program. Our knowledge of the entrepreneurial world was purely theoretical. IncubAlliance really helped us structure our project, develop a solid business model, and identify potential partners. Thanks to the various coaches who supported us throughout our incubation, we were able to question our assumptions and accept the need to adapt our project.
